Make Up Tips

How to apply Blush correctly according to the shape of your face.

Oval shape

An oval face has an even and balanced shape, with no prominent areas.

To add color:
To apply either baked, compact or cream blush in an effective way, blend the chosen color from the center area of the cheeks going up to the temples, to get the “Bonne Minne” effect.

To sculpt:
Apply blush underneath your cheekbones, if you wish to emphasize them, choose the right color to recreate the “sculpting” effect. Sweep blush on following a 3 shaped pattern, starting from the temples and finishing on the jaw. This will emphasize the three dimensional look of the face shape.

For a correct application, smile in front of the mirror, so that the facial muscles will be in the right position to help you localize the right spot where you’ll need to start.

Round shape

The round face has no sharpness, so it needs to be sculpted and made longer in order to look slimmer.
Avoid using pearly blushes, which reflect light and make the face look even bigger.

To add color:
Apply blush starting from the temples moving downwards along the cheekbone line.

To sculpt:
Choose the right blush color to recreate the “sculpting” effect along the oval contours, starting from the temple going down to the jaw. This will help you make your face look slimmer.

For a correct application smile in front of the mirror, so that the facial muscles will be in the right position to help you localize the right spot where you’ll need to start.

Square shape

Faces having a square shape are charactized by harmonic features and proportions, just like the oval ones, but with sharp and pronounced traits.

To add color:
To verticalize the face oval, blush needs to be applied in order to make the jaw look less prominent and marked. Apply with circular and even motions, concentrating mostly on the cheeks. This will make the shape of the face less sharp and more harmonic.

To sculpt:
To make face look even thinner, apply blush blending it vertically with a G like motion, starting from the temple, then below the cheekbone and finally down to the jaw.

For a correct application, smile in front of the mirror, so that the facial muscles will be in the right position to help you localize the right spot where you’ll need to start.

Oblong or triangular shape

Oblong faces are usually thin, with prominent forehead and chin.

To add color:
If you wish to make face look rounder and not as long, apply blush with horizontal motions, starting from the ear going down to the cheeks.

To sculpt:
To visually make the face look shorter, shade blush on forehead and chin with a brush. Applying blush along the hairline is also effective for those who have a high forehead.

For a correct application, smile in front of the mirror, so that the facial muscles will be in the right position to help you localize the right spot where you’ll need to start.

How to choose the right color:

- for fair skins, use nuances that go from rose to apricot
- for medium skins, use nuances that go from apricot to peach
- for dark and tanned skins, use nuances that go from peach to coral

But, if you wish to create shadings to get the "sculpting" effect, you'll need to use the brown nuances.
